Professional Fiction Editor
I am a professionally trained fiction editor specialising in working with crime, thriller, and horror writers. As a professional book editor, I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and adhere to their Code of Practice.
As well as a fiction editor, I also work with academia, specialising in the social sciences: anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, law, politics, psychology, and sociology. I provide editorial services to academics writing papers for published peer reviews, and students looking for top grades in their thesis or assignments.
My Background
Before retraining as an editor, I had a successful business career culminating in holding positions on several global blue-chip organisations’ senior leadership teams. During this period, I wrote my first book and made my rookie editorial mistakes – Mutual Justice. Believing I had a good grasp on the English language and a subscription to Grammarly, I thought I was quids in and self-published without using a professional editing service. I learned the hard way. However, the experience taught me I did not know as much as I thought I did, so I enrolled on several professional courses with the Publishing Training Centre. Realising how much I enjoyed the editing processes and the technical aspects of the different stages, I left my high-powered and stressful career to set up my business – Dave Clarke Editorial Services. The business’s primary goal is to provide affordable editorial services to independent fiction writers and academia while providing a professional and seamless service. My belief is editing should not be reserved for those with lots of money.
