Critique

Critique

A manuscript critique is a general assessment of your manuscript from a bird’s-eye view and focuses on three areas: plot, character, and pace.

The critique is an entry level edit where I look at your entire manuscript and offer actionable advice on how to improve your story.

I will show you areas that need tightening up to make the story stronger and more cohesive while enhancing your narrative and character’s voice.

What is covered in a manuscript critique?

The culmination of a critique is a detailed report highlighting areas for improvement in:

    • Overall theme
    • Point of view
    • Perspective
    • Plot Structure
    • Character voice
    • Narrative
    • Overall consistency
    • Any weaknesses in the story

The report I provide will take the form of an editorial memo starting with a general statement of my thoughts about the story. I will then dive straight into a detailed critique citing specific phrases, passages, scenes, etc. and ways to improve them.

It is important to understand that the report does not bring an end to my support for you. If you have questions on points I have raised, I actively encourage you to get in touch. I will be more than happy to talk them through with you.

Think you might be in need of a manuscript critique before a full edit?
